Progress in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) precision medicine will require a pragmatic approach which originates from observational data generated during routine care. Using readily accessible patient demographics and routinely collected prospective clinical data harvested from the electronic medical record (EMR), we have developed a functioning system which can characterize IBD patient subgroups and clinical trajectories over a multi-year time period. The long-term goal is to create clinical decision support tools which make precision medicine in IBD care a reality.
