Previous studies have shown that telemedicine can increase access to appropriate and timely care, resulting in improved processes of care, health-related outcomes, resource utilization, or resident/provider satisfaction.  However, there are a limited number of studies that have applied this technology to the nursing home (NH) setting, where residents are medically complex, have multiple comorbidities, polypharmacy, and are frequently admitted/readmitted to the hospital. During this presentation, the speakers will present the results of a study whose objective was to evaluate the perceptions of certified registered nurse practitioners (CRNPs) and nursing home (NH) nursing staff regarding the use of this technology.  To accomplish this, they conducted a pilot study to determine the feasibility of using telemedicine to assist nurse practitioners with managing acute change in condition and palliative care assessments of UPMC NH residents.
