Tobacco, Nicotine, Biomarkers, and Cancer: Past, Present and Future

March 26, 2015
12:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Outside speakers: Dr. Maciej Goniewicz and Dr. Stephanie Land
BST S120

This half-day event, sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) will be held in Oakland - BST S120. The event will feature short overview and talks by Pittsburgh investigators with ongoing programs of research related to tobacco, cancer and health.

There will also be longer presentations by two outside experts: Dr. Maciej Goniewicz (Roswell Park Cancer Institute) speaking on emerging research on e-cigarettes and Dr. Stephanie Land (National Cancer Institute) speaking on the challenges ahead and emerging initiatives from the NCI to support research in this area.

The overall goals of the retreat are to enhance the awareness of our current research initiatives, foster collaboration and give potential for engagement with shared facilities at the UPCI and the University, with an emphasis on opportunities for developing novel interdisciplinary and translational studies. Each speaker will present recent research findings and discuss their translational potential. The retreat will conclude with a Happy Hour designed to foster interactions among participants to consider collaborative opportunities in more detail.

We anticipate the program to be very interactive, and will lead to a wealth of knowledge and resources that should lead to new collaborative opportunities for interdisciplinary research in this important area by Pittsburgh researchers.
