Description
Obesity is rampant in the United States and is becoming increasingly common in China.  The increase in obesity prevalence is due to plentiful supplies of inexpensive foods and sedentary jobs.  The major physical consequence of obesity is atherosclerotic cardiovasular disease (ASCVD), mediated by type 2 Diabetes and metabolic syndromes.  Experts in these areas from Shanghai and Pitt will present thier work in this critical health area.  The University of Pittsburgh and its Department of Surgery have a Memorandum of Understanding with the 6th People's Hospital in Shanghai which led to exchange of fellows and two prior meetings held in Shanghai.
