Lisa K. Barsom, PhD, is assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs, health sciences. In this role, Dr. Barsom works with academic affairs leadership to coordinate the development and support of research, educational, and external affairs initiatives for the health sciences schools and oversees various special projects. Prior to occupying her current position, Dr. Barsom served as assistant provost for strategic and program development at the University and supported the provost’s research and educational initiatives across campus. She also spent nine years at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Medical and Health Sciences Foundation, where she developed and implemented organizational initiatives to support the health sciences portion of the University’s successful $2 billion capital campaign. Her early career focused on scientific communications and grant writing for biomedical and clinical research funding, as well as corporate relations activities.

Dr. Barsom earned her BS at Allegheny College, where she graduated with a double major in biology and philosophy. She received her PhD from the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology Program of Pitt’s Department of Biological Sciences, studying mycobacteria and the phages that infect them.
