Here’s your chance to prove that University of Pittsburgh students are the smartest in the commonwealth: Get your flu shot and help Pitt win the Pennsylvania title.
By getting your flu shot and reporting it to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, you can help Pitt win in a new statewide competition to get the most students vaccinated and keep yourself healthy at the same time. It’s a win-win.
Because vaccine protection wanes over time and the viruses mutate, updated fall shots ensure you are fully protected during the winter peak. The student health fee covers flu shots for students, who can get them through Student Health Services or the Pitt Vaccination and Health Connection Hub.
The flu is a contagious illness caused by two different types of viruses called influenza A and influenza B. It generally affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat and lungs, but can also cause fever, headache and joint and muscle aches.
On college and university campuses, the flu can easily spread during class, at mealtimes, in dorms and resident halls, at social events, sports, and using public transportation. Flu outbreaks on campuses are common because the virus can spread within student populations with incidence rates as high as 73%. On average, college students with the flu experience eight or more days of illness, which could affect academic performance.
Don’t miss out on classes, sports, activities or any of the fun of college life. Report getting your flu shot and help prove that Pitt is the best in the commonwealth!
