The University of Pittsburgh’s Vaccination and Health Connection Hub is bringing 20 wellness pop-up clinics to locations across campus this spring. Designed to meet employees where they work, these free screening events are part of an employee benefit for Pitt faculty and staff enrolled in UPMC health insurance through Pitt (Panther Gold, PPO and Basic plans).
These clinics do accept walk-ins, although appointments are recommended and can be made through the Hub website, healthhub.pitt.edu. They are hosted in buildings across campus, including administrative, academic and health sciences spaces, with select events designated for specific staff groups. Screenings are offered Monday through Friday, with a requirement to fast for at least 8 hours prior to appointment. In addition to these pop-ups, employees can also schedule screenings at the Hub, Monday through Friday.
The goal of the screenings is to identify risk factors for chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Participants receive personalized counseling on their results, recommendations for vaccines they may be due for, and referrals or suggestions for establishing care with a primary care provider if needed. By catching potential concerns early, the program aims to support lifestyle changes that can delay or prevent disease symptoms and strengthen long-term health outcomes.
For Liz Almes, Hub clinical pharmacist, the pop-ups reflect the program’s broader mission. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for members of the Pitt community to access preventive health services. The pop-up clinics are also a great opportunity for our health science students to interact with patients from across Pitt.”
Departments interested in hosting a future pop-up wellness screening can contact the Hub at TheHub@pitt.edu to be added to the calendar. More information about biometric screenings and Hub services is available on the Hub website at https://www.healthhub.pitt.edu/services/biometric-screenings.
