The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy has received the Lawrence C. Weaver Transformative Community Service Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
“This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to community partnership, compassionate care and advancing the future of pharmacy,” said Amy L. Seybert, Dr. Gordon J. Vanscoy Professor of Pharmacy and dean, School of Pharmacy. “I am incredibly proud of our faculty, students, staff, alumni and community partners who make this work possible every day.”
In its award letter, the AACP wrote: “We were impressed with the school’s ability to initiate, implement, evaluate and revise programs to meet and sustain the needs of the communities that it serves. The school primarily focused its application on six premier programs that illustrate its long-sustained commitment to community practice, research and education.”
The programs are the Grace Lamsam Pharmacy Program for the Underserved (which celebrated its 30th year in 2025); Community Leadership and Innovation in Practice Center (shown in photo); Partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department; Pitt Health Sciences Vaccination and Health Connection Hub; leadership at The Pittsburgh Poison Center and the University’s Community Engagement Centers, designed to foster long-term, collaborative partnerships between the university and local residents.
The school intends to use the $5,000 award to “support new efforts to address unmet community needs in the greater Western Pennsylvania region for under-resourced areas and populations experiencing low pharmacy access.”
Recipients will be honored at AACP’s annual meeting July 18-21, in Grapevine, Texas.
