Pitt Health Sciences Faculty Members Selected for 2025 Ascending Star Awards

July 30, 2025

This year, five Pitt Health Sciences faculty members have been selected for the 2025 Ascending Star Awards.

The annual Ascending Star Awards focus on research by highly productive, creative midcareer faculty members in the health sciences. Selection is based on a nomination from a senior faculty member—either from the nominee’s department, a collaborator or an affiliated center or institute—highlighting the nominee’s innovation, impact, mentoring, service and collegiality.

Each awardee receives a $25,000 award and will give a research talk at 3:30 p.m., in Alan Magee Scaife Hall, room 3785.

Each research talk will conclude with a short question and answer session and reception. The awardees and their talk dates are:

Shari Rogal, associate professor of medicine and of surgery, School of Medicine, and of clinical and translational science, will present on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Sonja Swanson, associate professor of epidemiology, School of Public Health, will present on Thursday, Sept. 4.
