The University of Pittsburgh’s health sciences programs continue to garner high national praise with the April 9 release of U.S. News & World Report 2024 Best Graduate Schools rankings. The publication is delaying the release of its updated medical school rankings, so the list still includes last year’s medical school rankings. Among those, Pitt is No. 7 for psychiatry; No. 10 for Ob/Gyn; No. 11 for best medical schools for primary care and No. 13 for best medical schools for research.

Leading the list of new accolades, the occupational therapy program was ranked No. 1 nationally and the nursing anesthesia program was No. 2.

“Every day at Pitt, we propel scientific discovery and clinical innovation, educating and preparing future researchers, physicians, health care providers and administrators,” said Anantha Shekhar, senior vice chancellor for the health sciences and John and Gertrude Petersen Dean, School of Medicine. “While we recognize that a ranking system cannot capture all the strengths of a school, we are delighted that so many of Pitt’s programs across the health sciences are well-represented on this list.”

For certain disciplines, the rankings are based on surveys of academic leaders at peer institutions. In other categories, the numbers are data-driven.

Pitt’s top 10 rankings in fields of the health sciences released so far include:

  • Audiology (No. 6 — tied)
  • Nursing Anesthesia (No. 2 — tied)
  • Nurse Practitioner (DNP) Psychiatric Mental Health (No. 5) *
  • Occupational Therapy (No. 1 — tied)
  • Pharmacy (No. 9 — tied)
  • Physical Therapy (No. 8)
  • Speech Language Pathology (No. 5 — tied)

The full list of Pitt’s graduate school rankings can be found by visiting U.S. News & World Report.
